I Don’t Speak to the Press

Chelsea Clinton
On stage, Chelsea never speaks. She stands next to her mother and applauds on queue like a trained terrier but evidently has marching orders from campaign headquarters to not utter a single sentence nor even say hello. What gives with the former first daughter? Reporters covering the campaign have been put on notice that Chelsea is not available to speak to them. Is there a problem with her voicing her own thoughts in public or is this yet another example of how programmed and scripted the Clinton’s have become. An campaign staff aide follows the former first daughter as she works the crowd, shushing reporters who approach her and try to ask any questions.
Notoriously protective of their daughter’s privacy, Bill and Hillary Clinton have taken great pains to shield Chelsea from the harsh glare and rough edges of presidential politics. She stayed largely absent from her mother’s campaign until December, when she made her first visit to Iowa along side grandma Rodham.
